Former Chief Executive Officer SPAR International
Dr. Gordon R. Campbell was Chief Executive Officer of SPAR International responsible for the world-wide development and co-ordination of the SPAR organisation until 31 December, 2015. SPAR is the world's largest organisation of independent retailers with over 12,000 SPAR stores in 35 countries. In 2015 SPAR had global annual retail sales of €33 billion. Dr. Campbell continues to contribute to SPAR’s worldwide success as an advisor to the Board to SPAR International.
Gordon has been responsible for the expansion of SPAR into many new countries most notably the large developing markets of China, India and Russia. He has knowledge of all aspects of food distribution and production having been Sales and Marketing Director of BWG Foods Ltd, Ireland, and Director of SPAR Ireland. Previously he was Business Development Manager and Chief Chemist with Ranks Ireland Ltd. He has a PhD in Biochemistry from trinity College, Dublin.
In April 2016 he was awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award at the World Retail Congress in Dubai. The award is presided over by the WRC Grand Jury who select an individual that they believe best demonstrates by their leadership that they have delivered over a period of time business success, new ideas, executional excellence as well as passion for the brand and how it serves their target customers. Previous winners include Paul Marchant, CEO, Primark, Angela Ahrendts, ex-CEO of Burberry and Charlie Mayfield, Chairman of John Lewis Partnership.
